Near disaster at Witches point ,but at least we didnt blank !!!

Another glorious day of sunshine ,John twisted my arm into havin another session at Witches point ,to see if we could coax a few more rays out . I arrived about an hour after John..with an hour or so to go before high water ...

Got on with fishing ,a few lads on the ledge to our right were coaxin a few tiddlers out on floated baits ,and doin a great job of casting over my line . John tempted fate and said move over to the left a bit ...i duely ignored his comment !....only to see my Zziplex M4, 6500,and rod rest disappear over the edge of the ledge ,as the guy to the right pulled in a doggie and my line ....

Got to the edge of the ledge as quick as i could ,expecting the worst .The rod rest had gone ,but to mine and Johns amazement the Zziplex and reel were floating ,frantic activity and some welcome help from a passing kayaker got the rod back to dry land .after untangleing from the lad to the right ,time to allow my blood pressure to return to normal.....2 casts later the 6500 shed a bearing circlip and the spool exploded into a huge birdy ..

Not my day really ,managed to beat the blank with a doggy .John bit a bit better and had a couple of dogs also and a very greedy turbot on the last cast of the afternoon.

Not a session i`ll be forgetting in a hurry ..thank goodness for the new Zziplex floating rods !!

Dogs and Turbot for John !

Greedy fish those small turbot!!!

John topping up his tan !....Beam me up Scotty !

Re: Near disaster at Witches point ,but at least we didnt blank !!!

because you god the rod back.....i laughed my prodigles off!!!!!! and will do for months while mercilessly ripping the mick

and that picture looks like the same beam of light that came out of the spaceship and abducted all the rays.....where are have they gone!!

nice to get out though and with the sun we had it was never going to be brilliant...

i'm off to lie in a puddle of aloe vera anyway

Thumbs up Re: Near disaster at Witches point ,but at least we didnt blank !!!

Sounds like an eventfull day Mike. Great pic with the sunbeams & a cute little Turbot too. I was thinking about you on saturday. I saw a trawler moored up in Portland harbour. Name......Lady Helen. Not such a pretty boat though.

Re: Near disaster at Witches point ,but at least we didnt blank !!!

i shouldnt laugh as i had a dive boat do that to me off Swanage pier - i made Usain Bolt look slow as i raced forward to grab the rod but was too late..fortunately the amount of shouting and swearing got their attention and the boat turned round rod and reel in tow..
Im not sure i was as forgiving as you lol
Lovin the pics

WOW. The words lucky B spring to mind.
Good job you cleaned the rod or all the built up squid & eel would have sunk it for sure.
A few days of sun & we all turn into strawberries.

it was mikes rod not mine......his is sparkly clean.

mind you there is a scratch or 2 on in now which i have already advised about the merits of keeping a good old covering of crud on the rod...just to hide the scratches!!!!!

what we can assume is that using your rod as a spear off witches doesn't work!!!!!

Close shave there Mike, you should be used to bloody idiots tangling everyone up though :)
Great report and I am sick as a parrot living so far in land.
I am seriously looking in to moving to either the Isle of Wight (might catch more barbel ;) ) or back ome.

All I need to do is get my CV up to date and teach myself a real programming language .
