| Re: new to barry Welcome to the site, this time of year you cant go far wrong with cold knap beach fishing high tide in the dark fishing small strips of mackerel will pick up whiting, for better fish either whole squid will have a chance of conger or big worm baits and you have a small chance of a cod. Ever present dogfish will take any bait in the water. To fish the beach to its full potential you need to fish bigish tides about 200 yards away from the point itself, that seems to be the deepest part of the beach. If you wanted to fish low tide then Porthkerry Park infront of the golf coarse can produce on bigger lows you don't get the dogs there. Generally I find better tides to fish either are over 11m on the cardiff scale. |

as KKK has said cold knap is alright and fontygary. you also have friars point that can be good for rays, codling and congers over small low waters the old harbour breakwater on big tides over high for flatties, whiting and schoolies to small baits The green light which is the outside harbour wall of barry harbour, this can be great for rays and conger again,,,but mainly conger. then if your mobile you have Bendricks rocks-good winter mark for codling and whiting and congers etc during summer Sully Island good low water mark, be carefull not to get cut off St Marys well bay - sand spit another low water mark for spring tides throws up codling, whiting and flatties penarth area pier good for small stuff, Ranny rough ground for codling and congers Cardiff foreshore, really good mark for codling, whiting, pout, congers, rays the other direction west you have some rough ground marks that will eat your weights collection Rhoose point...rougher than a badgers arse but can be great for the smooth hounds Aberthaw again very rough but excellent smooth hounds in summer Summerhouse point good mark for blonde rays, smoothhound, congers and rays monknash clean beach fished at low water on big tides will provide turbot, rays, bass and smoothound Gary evans tackle shop in Cardiff sells the arrowsmiths tide books that has maps in them with spots and fish to target. You do need the arrowsmiths as you may be given advice on a place based on the heights of this tide table by other anglers and tackle shops and the online tide tables differ in height for this area of the country. Reg aspinals in barry is an excellent shop and reg will also be a wealth of info for you..aswell as good bait. john __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size |
