Conger conger - Cardiff 25-29.09.09

Hi All
Been out (on Trombone) the last few days and fished all over the channel - no cod and no bass (not to say they aren't there) - however had some good rays in 6 foot of water off the foreshore on Fri night - they certainly fight harder in shallow water on a spinning rod. Also lots of whiting and baby cod close in. Then yesterday lots of conger out in mid channel (biggest 23lb) and today again lots of conger (biggest 29lb) off mid Cardiff buoy. The rays inshore are all females and about 10lb (not weighed). Few doggies too. Took advantage of the small neap tides to use my 10ft spinning rod and 15lb braid, which is what I had the 29lb conger on, which was fun! Unbelievably it was on a 4/0 hook to 25lb snood. Don't know how it didn't bite through the line during the 10 minute fight - the hook was in the back of his mouth and the line was very frayed by the time I got him to the boat. My PB conger and the biggest fish off the boat to date.

Good fish, the best conger are normally about from now until mid nov mainly on cuttles or whiting

Well done mate - reckon coner bonking is brilliant one of my favourite fish to catch and fight with !!!
