| spinning down west Had an 8 o'clock start yesterday morning...after a heavy night on the black sambuca.....boy was i feeling special with that in mind my mate johnboy (aka clumsy barsteward) decided to take me to one of his spots sorry he don't want it published....dunno why...you'll understand later got to the spot...well the cliffs above the spot and by this stage my rusty bullet hole was twitching like a nervous rabits nose as i'm not the best with heights...especially those that tend to lure suicidal people!! 20 minutes later and we made the bottom. great now all i have to do is concentrate on fishing and not the doom impending climb back up after a couple of hours.... anyway - the fishing...........blanked, tried everything shallow divers, poppers, dexters, bass bullets......nothing happening today, may have been the wind, may have been the small tides, may have been any number of reasons but thats fishing and its better than getting bed sores from lying on the sofa with a hangover. i did find this little critter in a rockpool....haven't got a clue what type of jelly fish it is...portuguese man of war sprang to mind but we don't get them up here do we??? ![]() ![]() __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size |

| Re: spinning down west Unlucky with the fishing mate. ![]() With regards to the Man O war, I think that's exactly what it is. We've seen a few down here the last few weeks (Well, not me personally) and all the photo's I've seen look exactly like that. The council have put notices up on Exmouth sea front and asked that any sightings be reported. It goes without saying that you really need to stay away from these things. They pack a nasty punch. ![]() Edit: Leigh found a BBC news story a while back. Cheers Leigh. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8185667.stm __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. | Re: spinning down west We do get a lot of Man 'o' war around generally in July and through August and depending on which way the currents run and they seem to depend on weather we get them off west wales. We thend to have them in 7 year cycles for example we will get them for about 7 years then a few years of nothing. As for the south coast I can not comment. When they return the pap[ers start off on unusuall things around our coast as is the case with cuttles, trigger, leatherhead turtles and sunfish, which I am sure as fishermen know these are very common. |
