late post as the forum was out of action 12th Sept We locked out of the marina at 0900hrs and headed off to a mid-channel mark about 10nm out of penarth. Weather was near perfect with a light westerly wind. We came around lavernock point (rannie) and there was a bit of a chop but still fine. Armed with rag, squid, sandeel and mackerel, we dropped anchor at about 10.00hrs. First cast and Miffie is into his first doggie. then two more fell to him before his first ray appeared at around about the 7lb mark (i`ll post his photo`s when he sends them to me). I still havn't had a bite yet. Then my first ray appeared ![]() Now my ray identification is not up to much so perhaps you pro's can help me out here. My guess is a blonde which weighed 7lb. We went on like this for the next couple of hours, catching about a dozen rays between us, a few strap conger and a few small whiting. Then Miffie was in to a lunker. Took ages to move it off the bottom. When he eventually got it to just under the surface, his trace parted company and back to the depths it went. Well the weather forecast lived up to expectations again. Wrong again met office. With the wind now SW increasing, the swell turning to white horses, it was time to move. Headed to Sully Bay and dropped anchor once again. Only three bites in two hours but they produced these beauties ![]() 15lb Small eyed?? and ![]() 10lb Blonde?? ![]() 8lb Small eyed?? Then I had to be in work for 6.30 so headed back in at the 4.45 lock. The rays took just about every bait we had, either on its own or in a cocktail. Most of Miffies fell to mackerel but most of mine went to sandeel and cocktails. __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right.

Re: late post as the forum was out of action Gutted, I just found out that the Welsh boat caught Small eyed Ray record is 15lb 2oz caught way back in 1991. Mine weighed in at 15lb (weighed in the boat and released) It probably weighed more than that rather that less. Anyway, better to release it than kill it for a record huh?? ![]() __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right.

Re: late post as the forum was out of action Smashing fish - sounds a great day. I think your right about putting the fish back - records are flat black round things with a hole in the middle, Or a smug little smile & a warm feeling inside. Well done. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>
