Oxwich Bay , South Gower

Hey guys! Took TOMMY A and his dad down to Church Rocks to try for late bass and some whiting. Unfortunately, they got stuck on the M4 for ages and so we didnt get down there until 1.5hrs before top tide. First cast Tommy caught what I thought was the smallest dogfish I had ever seen - I shouldnt have taken the p-ss because I followed his doggie up with its younger brother!! Next cast I whacked it out a little further and managed a pouting but thereafter we caught dogfish after dogfish. I estimate we ended up with 35 dogs (we were bringing them in two at a time and i can guarantee if i had baited a string of feathers with fish bait we would have been bringing them in 6 at a time!)
Tommy attempted to allude the dogs by flicking a nice juicy peeler crab bait out for the bass but it wasnt to be - the dogfish were all over everything!
Was a good session nonetheless and good to meet up with some people from the forum! Look forward to hearing about that Redwick session Tommy!

Incidentally all fish were returned alive.

FAO TOMMY

Have just heard someone fishing last hour of ebb and first two hours of flood at this venue on Saturday (the day after!) caught two small flounder and several bass up to 2lb all on peeler crab!!! Could this be a pathological liar or is it a true ''you should been here the day after'' story!? Probably true knowing my luck! lol

Re: Oxwich Bay , South Gower

Rich me and Tommy are already planning a trip to Ogmore Deeps and more importantly Redwick (they are already catching cod mainly to 6lb with some pushing 10lb) at this mark. He has a friend who knows this area well and will hopefully be guiding us in the right direction! I will keep you posted. You are always welcome to fish my patch whenever you feel like it and I will give you a tour as I did with Tommy. Was a good session despite all the dogfish - I couldnt have seen that little problem coming! A few times the three of us were all struggling to unhook writhing muscley pieces of sandpaper all at the same time! Was pretty hectic! Tommys dad slipped down the rocks on his a*se whilst trying to release a dogfish without throwing it in (i dont think it was worth getting wet for!).

yeah he was ok - just sorta slowly slid down with a dogfish wrapped up his arm! but yeah good advice - i think we all slipped on the rocks at some point in the night so to anyone who thinks about rock fishing alone - its not a good idea regardless of whether you are a newbie or a skilled angler you cant forecast what might happen next.
