Aberthaw 9th June

Locked out at 9.am and headed against the tide down channel to Aberthaw in search of some more hounds. Weather was a bit blowey but took a chance on it not worstening. How wrong a choice that proved to be. Anyway, set the anchor at 10.00 and straight away into the inevitable dogfish. Continued to bait up with squid bodies and soft crab which tempted a steady stream of Smoothhound (along with the odd strap conger and more doggies).

My mate Dave had this best Starry of 7lb

This was my best at a lovely 12lb...and what a scrap.

I had seven in all and Dave had just the one. A cracking couple of hours cut short by a freshening wind. We decided to up-anchor at 14.00 hrs back to Penarth as there were now white tops to the swell and a wicked wind-over-tide situation. Found a couple of rough spots on the way back...past friars Point and sully island but then to negotiate the Rannie...........Not as bad as I thought it was going to be as I stepped on the gas and powered my way through. Took one wave over the bow and got a bit wet but no more than a mild cooling down after the hot sunshine of the day. Boat handled brilliantly. Came back to Penarth and caught Jack Sh*t. But a lovely day out again.
