gower camping trip

Just got back from a great week down the gower.

loaded up and the bass gear...didn't bother with any other type of gear...it was flourocarbon 4/0's and 3oz weights for me all week.

got to port eynn campsite and managed to get a lovely spot right by the salthouse and set up the tent with plenty of time before low water

and by 4pm i was off for my first mark in between slade and oxwich point on the picture above its just below the patch of green grass on the other headland...and quite a walk....found a lovely gully which had a couple of herons in it...until i got there. don't know if you know that herons secrete a chemical off there legs that attracts fish, plenty of guys have told me to fish gullys that herons have been in as there will be plenty of food for them and then when the tide comes in the fish get attrated to the gully by the chemical...

plenty of crab around and soon had more than enough for a session
just before dusk i started and had a bite immediatly....yep doggie!!!!
after that i had another good take and landed the first bass of the week not big about 2lb..quickly returned and as darkness approached the bites became really violent and added another 3 fish before i packed up at 1.00am....2 of which took the rod off the rod rest.

tuesday saw me fishing a spot off the rocks in port eynon and again great fishing had 4 bass upto 2 1/2lb casting no further than 30 yards.

fished tuesday night too around at overton which is a hike in the opposite but only managed 2 as i was suffering delayed reactions to the bites like i'd never seen before and a great big slug...

Wednesday i fished port eynon again and had a bass about 2lb and a green eel about a 1lb

met up with a mate wednesday night and had a bit of campsite carnage!!! plenty drunk and eaten and arranged to meet up the following day and fish oxwich.
overcast, small tides and bad heads we fished chapel rocks and managed to winkle a few out..had a good flounder 2 bass and a doggie that thought he was a bass.

Friday saw me take the long walk again over to slade area and fished a different gully....this area is great but rougher than a badgers arse!!
had 2 small fish about a 1 1/2lb which was all i was expecting really with the small tides and then a tiny bite which i thought was a slug turned into a 3 1/2lb bass...biggest of the week and last fish before i had to return to normality.

couple of pics but unfrtunatly the battery died around wednesday

great week, weather was good to me and the fishing was good even though the tides were tiny.
Also no bass were killed and all swam away....the peeler crab weren't as lucky!!

Re: gower camping trip

Nice one guys

might just have to think of sending my wife off for a pampering weekend just so i can creep down there again soon!!!

anyway

couple more pictures that show the ground i was fishing over and believe it or not i only lost about 5 hooks and a couple of weights all week....did have to strip 20 yards of line off after each session though.
