Not many reports on here lately

I`ve noticed that there are not many reports on here lately. Is that because no one is fishing or because no one is catching anything??

The latter I would guess if my fishing trips are anything to go by. I do try to go out once a week on the boat but the trouble is with a small boat, you are governed by the weather..and lets face it, the weather has been pants. I cant remember a period when we have had such prolonged periods of high winds.

Anyway, I have managed to get out even if its just to anchor inshore off the rannie and drink tea and coffee all day whilst drowning some Irish or Southamptons...(worms that is not people lol).

What I do find encouraging though is that I dont seem to blank. There are so many small, and I mean small codling around, you cant really fail to catch one. One day off the Middle Grounds I had 8 and they were all under 1lb.
Last week I went out by the N Cardiff and caught one about 3.75lb on my first cast and nothing else for the next 4 hours. Exactly the same yesterday. First cast out at the Mid Grounds a nice plump 3.75 lb codling and that was it for the next 3 hours when I moved back to Penarth. One small codling there before I went in.
Funny thing was in the lock was a charter boat with 3 just guys on it. Envious of my codling that I was gutting, they failed even to get a bite all day even though they had spotted me some distance from them over Newport way.

I dont think ill be waiting for the `Spring Run`that everyone keeps talking about. I thing i`ll forget the cod for this season. I guess the bass will be starting to show soon enough. Big Blondes are already showing down channel so I think that could be my next port of call........if the wind ever drops...

Good luck if you do manage a session or two.

Re: Not many reports on here lately

Hi Andy, glad youre getting some fish at least, a few of my mates were out about 2 weeks ago and managed 6 keepers biggest going 5 1/2lb. I am unfortunetly recovering from a knee op and reading yor report with jealousy. hoping to get out over easter if all goes well. good time to do a bit of rig building i think, along with some adjustments to the boat. keep up with targetting those cod for a while thogh they should stay around for at least 3 or 4 weeks and usually theres a couple of linkers taken this time of year.

Re: Not many reports on here lately

hi andy
good to hear you are still catching, as we havent been able to get out lately due to weather and cleaning up the boat ready for the arrival of new one which we took delivery of yesterday. (check earlier post ) hopefully we will get out in the next couple of days to give it a bit of an airing.

catch you later

Re: Not many reports on here lately

Nice to hear from you guys again.

Sorry to hear you`ve been laid up KK. Still, you`ve not missed the greatest of cod seasons. Get well soon though and get back to some serious report writing. It gets lonely on here.

I`m glad its not a Welsh thing then Dave. Everyone must be having a dose of the fishing blues. Fishing does usually tail off a bit this time of year I suppose.

Good luck with the new boat Peter, She looks lovely if its the Arvor in your avatar. Bet you cant wait to christen her. A couple of decent fish.......after you`ve drunk the champagne of course.

Tight lines everyone.

Re: Not many reports on here lately

Chaps - I havent made it out at all this winter due to work, weather and new family. However before we move the boat off down to Exmouth Im hoping for one bash in a couple of weeks - where about would we need to head for a chance of blondes then - PM if you wish so not to giveeveryone the info - Ill only be out once so would like to think I may catch something !!!!!

Cheers - Pete nice boat mate - we have last years model and they are superb although we had a major engine problem with the VW settling in - apparently quite a few had it but now they are well and truly sorted. Good boats for fishing off and great fun enjoy.
