| Friday 10th Aug Went out last friday but its only now that i`ve had chance to write anything about it. Pretty poor really as I only caught 2 fish (well at least I didnt blank). The night before I tied my bait trap under the pier for the night hoping for some shrimps. All I had was a basket full of hardback crabs. So went off and dug some lovely juicy rag. So armed with about half a pound of king rag and some squid I headed off to the ranny in search of ........anything really. Fished for about 2 hours not even a bite. Nice tan by now though. Headed off out to check out Flat holme. Far too deep to drop anchor there and the flooding tide was ripping through there even in the lee of the island. I knew that Bass were being taken by the sluice gates outside the barrage so I headed for there next. I noticed lots of anglers up there by the pink hut with their bait traps lowered in search of the deadlybass bait.... prawn. As I was in the cabin ready to drop anchor, I heard a spludunch right by the boat. I thought sh*t!! someones casting a bit close to the boat. But as I came out I heard another spludunch. Looked around and just saw a the ripples of what I now know to be that of a bass re-entering the water. There were fish jumping clean out of the water all around the boat. These were not small fish either. These were easily double figure fish and quite obviously full up on the fry coming out of the sleuces because they wouldnt touch my bait on the bottom. I didnt see any going up the wall by the pink hut either. I have never seen a sight like this before So many BIG BASS jumping clean out of the water and for about 2 hours up until they shut the sleuce gates. So close to me I could almost catch them in my landing net. I had some rappalas with me but nothing to cast them with. My spinning rod is now on the boat for the rest of the summer. Managed a flounder though on my king rag. Left later and went further out off the foreshore. Caught a strap conger before heading home at 6.15pm....What a lovely day. __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right. |
