Amroth area in three weeks?

Going camping in three weeks, hopefully for about 10 days or so. Will be just about within walking distance of Wisemans bay??(name might be wrong). I'm looking to catch Bass and maybe even the odd mackerel for tea OCCASSIONALLY (I'll probably starve then). More importantly I'll be looking for some cracking sport . A wide range of species would be good. Particularly would like to plug and spin as well as more conventional beach fishing .

Anyone got any ideas? I'd rate myself as about a 2 on a 1 to 10 rating as a shore fisherman.

Needs to fit in with the family holiday too.

Cheers,

Pete.

Re: Amroth area in three weeks?

amroth and wisemans bridge does throw up flatties to lug, maddies and razorfish.

saundersfoot harbour is good for mullet high tide in the harbour, (you can also dig maddies here too) and mackeral can be feathered for too as well as a spot of doggie bashing.

Re: Amroth area in three weeks?

I know it sounds a bit soft, but what are maddies? I'm assuming they are those small white rag you often come across when you're digging lug. Course I could be talking rubbish.

Re: Amroth area in three weeks?

thats right mate, harbour rag is another name, fish a big bunch of them on a small fine wire hook and the flounders and many more fish go crazy for them
the only drawback is that they are a delicate bait and don't stand up to casting well

maddies are harbour rag. small ragworm that are miniture versions of normal ragworm not the cordon bleu version of white rag. you will find them in the thick goopy smelly mud in the first section of the harbour by the stream.

plenty on a small hook and they are god for the flatties and will take bass too.

they really are a pain to dig as you get so mucky and loose wellies!!!!!

might be worth getting some from country stores at gowerton on your way down there. £15 a pound but that should last you a good couple of sessions and they keep quite well.

Re: Amroth area in three weeks?

there's a small private beach just north? of saundersfoot on frances road to wisemans bridge .
the rocks to the left looked interesting but watch you don't get cut off by the tide , i just managed a few mackerel here but i saw a few wrasse caught a couple of years ago when i fished this area.

i also fished saundersfoot breakwater , there were mackerel about and we also managed the usual doggies and a few gurnard, same species from tenby marks;- north beach and off the rocks near the castle?

handy tackle shop;- tenby angling in the old market hall- 01834 844430.

this info is at least 2 years old though.
