gower trip

Went down the gower camping this weekend and stayed in port eynon
managed to get the kayak on the roof before the wife noticed too

saturday morning saw me and my mate tackled up and ready for the off at oxwich bay at 7 in the morning ready for the tide turning tocome in.
had a quick paddle out to the wreck. the sea was like a mirror, there wasn't a ripple in it and i was now kicking myself that i'd forgotten the camera!!

tackle of the morning was a 5-20gram spining rod fishing a live prawn over the broken ground around the wreck and we were straight into fish. had virtually a pollack a throw, nothing over a pound and a half but great fight on light tackle and a lso a couple of wrasse put in a show too.
when it quietened down a bit we had a troll with j13's but nothing showed. Before we knew it we right off the point so decided to head out a little further for some mackeral. had a few but even though they were showing on the sounder they didn't really want to play ball

made our way back in before the tide turned and caused too much current and made my way to the bar!!! not a bad day out especially as the weather was so good

john

Re: gower trip

This kayak thing is sounding great. Saw a guy off Llandanwg in March and he seemed able to really get around the rocks and stuff. I reckon this and sea fly are looking like real growth areas. Haing said that also reckon halibut pellets are worth a try, so what the hell would I know. Hehe! I can just see someone combining both and going back and forth. Having said all that , didn't they originally say float tubes for trout were cr@@ and they've proved brilliant in the right hands (or feet). Cider again, sorry.

Re: gower trip

I would say down west wales they would be cracking potential welsh record wrasse from one of those hard to fish areas maybe.

Re: gower trip

certainly quieter than having a boat...we were paddling out around oxwich point and saw a couple of individual fish (bass) below the surface that as soon as we cast a spinner they were off but i'm sure johnboy my mate will be after them on his next outing as he's quite a proficient fluff flicker...

also forgot to mention sitting half mile off oxwich point drifting for the mackeral having a cigerette and a chat to johnboy and looked up to see FOUR or FIVE BIG gin palaces fully on the plane and heading our way...nearly invented a new jet propulsion system for the yak there and then while wondering which way they were going to go.!!! they did shout of round the headland much to the relief of my sphincter but the wake was HUGE.....good fun though and didn't get my fag wet either!!!
