Rhossilli Ledges, Gower

It is possible to catch smoothound from this mark from about mid - august. Two years back we had them to about 6lb but we werent even targeting them! We returned about 3wks ago and pulled a very small smoothie out and only managed to get back there this Tuesday.
Fished from 5hrs before high tide (had to wait for enough water so setting up was nice and relaxed!). We both fished two rods, one was used to scratch around close in for smaller species and the other had a clipped down pulley right out. Had big problems with spider crabs removing baits AND hooks!!! Managed one small whiting??? on the early flood (it was definately a whiting, strange but it gets weirder!). Absolutely nothing exciting happened until 1hr before high tide when the surface erupted 20yds out with small fry and mackerel jumping clear of the water. I decided to try some small fry feathers and we pulled out 11 mackerel. Unfortunately not expecting to be fishing for mackerel I didnt have a fixed spool and so it was only a matter of time before the multiplier had too much loose line on to cast. I dropped the feathers straight down the side so that I could sort the reel out and managed to catch a small pollack! Happy with this I jigged the feathers straight down as if on a boat and caught another pin whiting!!!

Unfortunately no smoothound action but a bad session was thankfully saved right at the end!!
