Striped Bass in Maine

Heading over to Maine in August and taking my spinning gear as I fancy a crack at the american Striped Bass which seem to be like our bass only bigger with horizontal stripes. I'll be fishing from both shore and kayak (hopefully).
Anyone know what kind of tactics they use over there for these things or has anyone had any experience with them? Do they inhabit the same sort of areas as our bass? Estuaries, rocky beaches etc...
