What a night. Friday night again, the river is still out of action, due to the heavy rain the last few days. We decided on a visit to a fishery just outside Hamilton that we`ve fished before. We arrived at about 3.30pm, only to find the gate closed and padlocked. After a quick discussion, we decided to head for last week`s venue, a country park just outside the city boundary. Just by luck we had 2 spin/bait rods in the car from last week (you can`t fly fish here as there is a walking track right round the loch), about 1/2 a tub of worms, and a couple of half empty tubs of power bait . We were eventually set up to fish about 5pm-ish, just as the heavens opened and down came the rain, well shower, it only lasted 20 mins or so, then started to clear up. .We fished about 2 hours, missed a couple of takes, but glad that the fish were biting. Just before dark, the there was a magnificent display just before sunset. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The sunsets here can be spectacular at times. Anyway back to the fishing, it was getting really dark now, we were baiting the hooks by torchlight, but enjoying every minute of it. A few foxes about, no doubt after one of the many ducks here, kept their distance from us though. About 10-ish decided to call it a day, would have prefered to fly fish at the fishery, but a good session just the same. This is my mate with his evening`s catch, a nice brace of rainbows. ![]() Peter ![]() ![]()

Re: What a night. Hi Peter, - shame you didnt get to cast a fly, but sounds like you enjoyed the different venue (and drowning the worms) in any case. Nice pair of rainbows for your mate too. Cracking photo's of the sunset, the third one down and last sunset one are real nice.

Re: What a night. Hi Baz, how you doing bud? Bit disappointed at not getting to fly fish (I`d tied up some buzzers, PTNs and a few lures for the night, but.... Don`t know why it was closed, I usually phone beforehand, but got my phone upgrade from o2 and haven`t got round to importing my contacts yet . It was a good second choice, we had a couple of rainbows each, only about the 2lb mark, still.... I feel as though we`ve hardly been on the river this year ( we voted for a catch and release and no stocking of brown trout this season, needn`t have bothered, can`t get near the river anyway ). We intend to try for a pike on the fly, after hitting the crossbar last year. Hows the fishing with you lately?Hi flydog and mac 1, have a look mystery solved lol ![]() Foxes tend to patrol the edges of the loch at night and I think the duck decided the middle of the water was a safer place to be ![]() ![]() Peter ![]() ![]()

Re: What a night. Hi Peter - typical isnt it, the one time you dont phone and its locked. Will be interesting to hear how u get on trying for pike on the fly. Will that be on the Forth and Clyde canal? Dont know about up your way but the canal I fish gets choked up with weed all over summer - but hopefully will be clearing in next few weeks, and I can get the lure rod outBaz

Re: What a night. Lots of big pike apparently in the Partick basin (just behind Partick Thistle`s ground) Baz, so you know. The weed is quite bad in the basin for a while, but clears towards the end of this month....I think. Maybe we`ll try in a couple of weeks time. Hi Dave, yeah it was a good session in the end, after all that travelling lol ![]() Peter ![]() ![]()
