A day at Dever Springs

After a 2 hour drive down we pull into the fishery to be greeted by the bigest Mayfly I have ever seen

As we were setting up there were fish rising on the far side of Willow pool so set up the floating line and my favourite dry fly and started on that side of the lake in the first coulpe of hours I had about 7 rises from Trout (about 20 from Perch) and hooked 2 ut only landed 1 which at 5lb was my biggest Rainbow for the year, by about 11.00 it had gone quiet so moved round to the other side and cahnged to the Intermidiate line and a small goldhead and had a 7lb rainbow 2nd cast, fished here for about an hour but was having problems casting into the wind which was gusting quite strong for most of the day.

After lunch I decided to explore the other lake and although I could see them I couldn't get any interest from them at all on any fly so came back to Willow lake and "borrowed" Graham's rod whilst he was on the mobile to his missus and caught this on the first cast

At 9lb 4oz its my second biggest trout ever.

A most enjoyable day out

Re: A day at Dever Springs

Nice one. Will have to give it a try at some point.
Zonkers,my mate and myself popped into Coltsford for a few hours a couple of weeks ago.Advised not to bother by Neil the bailiff but we did.Had a couple each BUT in poor condition and lots of clearly NOT happy fish moving about.
Off to Albury on sunday and not too sure that the fish are going to be That much better there as some of the lakes are closed due to poor water quality/oxygen levels!!!!!!!!!!.
Is Dever spring fed?

Re: A day at Dever Springs

There were lots of little channels coming of the River Dever so I am assuming that its fed by them but as the name is Dever Springs there must be some there somewhere, the water was crystal clear on both lakes and no sign of distressed fish.

I have had problems at Coltsford before , a couple of years ago my branch of the guild fished their christmas comp there and I for one threw away the 3 fish I caught because they were bleeding through the skin, not very nice at all.
This year we are going to Yew Tree Farm but have brought the date forward to the end of Oct because it ices over in the bad weather.

Lets us know how you get on at Albury as I haven't fished there for about 10 years.

Re: A day at Dever Springs

Perhaps we should suggest Albury as an alternative to YewTree Dick.

Will do.Like everywhere prices at Albury have risen a fair amount. Its best(as weith most fisheries) in the cooler weather and you do have the option of using any uncaught fish tickets again.
Have only fished Yew tree once, years ago at tail end of September and it was heavily weeded up.Do you go there often?.

Re: A day at Dever Springs

I like to get to Yewtree at least once a year as I enjoy fishing there and have done since it first opened in fact I fished the opening day when it was 4 lakes not 3 as now.
