Nice to be back on the river.

Left Malta at 4pm (local time) on Monday, arrived back in Glasgow at 6.35am Tuesday absolutely shattered. Up early Wed. morning gear packed and off to the river, set up to fish for 7.15am. Took my 7`0" 3/4 weight and a 9`0" 5/6 weight, not knowing what the water height was. Decided on the 7`0" rod and 3wt reel with a 2wt DT line (as the water level was just about perfect) , 8` 4lb fluoro. leader and # 16 bivisible dry fly. Wading upstream from the bridge pool, quite a few rises, but missed the first 4 or 5 takes, then got my head together and started to take small browns every 2nd or 3rd cast. Best fish of the day was around the 3/4lb mark, but mostly just under 1/4-1/2lb. The river was in great condition, clear and at an excellent height.

Love this stretch of water.

Trout love those overhanging branches.

wild brownie in excellent condition.

About 2pm it all started to go pear shaped, I overcast to arise just under overhanging branches and snagged one of them, I gave a pull on the rod to free the fly, which came whizzing back like a bullet and lodged in my neck

I don`t have many barbed hooked flies left in my box, but guess what. Solution= forceps on bend of the hook and pull ouch. Decided that was enough for one day, so waded to the bank to get out, bank crumbled under my foot, down I went, hit a rock full force just below the knee. So there I was, bleeding hole in my neck, lump the size of a tennis ball below my knee......Great to be back on the river.

Nice one D.S. Your report is only matched by the scale of your injuries... Sounds like you need another holiday to recover....

Great report Peter - river is looking nice. Sorry to hear about the neck, and leg injury ( I can sympathise with you as I got a lure treble in the cheek last year) - I would have been muttering a few choice words if it had been me - and glad you had a nice holiday too.
