The End of a Rainbow. With the local rivers out of action, most being high and a muddy brown colour, I decided to head up to one of my favourite fisheries. Again I took the train from Glasgow (see hilltop fishing thread) to Wemyss Bay, and a taxi up to Skelmorlie and walked up the rest of the way to the fishery. No-one about, so I phoned the manager and let him know I was there. He told me to just carry on and he`d be up later in the morning. I set up two 9`0" rods, a 5wt for a dry fly and a 6/7wt for lures and buzzers. I`d already decided on C&R, and was about to move round the bank a bit, and noticed this guy, ![]() as I moved closer, it took flight to the other side and settled in the gorse. No rises visible, so I put the rod with the dry fly set up on the grass and moved on with the lure rod. At this point I was more interested in the surroundings than fishing, I`ve been here many times, but each visit has the same effect on me. How do you concentrate on fishing in a place like this? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It dulled down a bit as the day wore on and to tell the truth, the fishing was taking 2nd place. It might have been a mistake to bring binoculars with me . I stopped for a bite to eat at around 12.30, and noticed two new arrivals near the manager`s caravan (he later told me he feeds them peanuts ). ![]() They disappeared when they realised the nuts were finished , although you could hear them. wasn`t having much luck with the fishing too many distractions. Mid afternoon now and nothing to show but a half hearted take earlier on, so I thought of a buzzer under a dry (although only for a few seconds lol) I`d tied a few buzzers last week and stuck one on, deciding on a lift and fall motion that`s worked for me in the past.![]() Too soon it was time to pack up, and head for home. As usual, I stopped to talk to the manager for a while, how he does it I don`t know, but he spotted this wee thing in the distance.(sorry about the quality, but camera was on full zoom and hard to focus at that distance) ![]() ![]() Well that was my day`s fishing, except to say I bumped into an old friend on the way back down. ![]() His missus must be making the dinner ![]() End of the rainbow? Well I decided to pay the extra and take one home, the buzzer did the trick. ![]() Peter ![]()

Re: The End of a Rainbow. Great report Peter, as per usual. Weather was a bit nicer on this trip, as I think the last time you went up there it was earlier in the year. Great to see lots of wildlife when you are out fishing too. It looks a lovely water to fish, and well done on that cracking rainbow too.

Re: The End of a Rainbow. Hi Baz, yeah last time there was still ice on parts of the water. The pheasants were amazing, almost tame (must remember to take peanuts next time) . Love the views of the Firth of Clyde from so high up, must take a panoramic photo next time. 15 days and counting then off to the Med for 3 weeks fishing and sunshine and did I mention fishing? . Off down the river just now, lift is here, cheers bud. Thanks Rob M, appreciated cheers ![]() Peter![]()
