Friday evening session. Met my mate about 4.45pm and started off for the river, arriving at 530(caught up in the traffic, it usually takes about 20 mins.). The water was a lot clearer after Wednesday`s deluges and at a good height for fly fishing. Tied a couple of Snipe and Purples with a dry hackle well Ginked up and started fishing upstream and started picking off trout right off.( Note the almighty tangle in pic 4 ![]() )![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A few at about 1/2lb, but mostly around the 1/4lb mark, but again great fun on the light tackle ( the 3lb fluoro leaders were more than adequate). We fished on `til the light started to go about 10.30. I`d been casting to a rising trout, that looked a fair size, missed it 3 times and gave up. ![]() Leaving the river I noticed the light through the trees, ![]() when we got back to the car, the sky looked as if it were on fire. ![]() Nice end to the day, so home for a few Magners.

Re: Friday evening session. Thanks Baz, the pic doesn`t really show sky as we saw it, it was amazing. see what you mean about a bird`s nest , fish came towards me at an alarming rate, so I had to strip the line fast. Only took seconds to untangle though.

Re: Friday evening session. Great report and pictures. Loved the last one, looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. Went out myself yesterday, caught loads of grass behind me, but alas no fish. Still, learning and some of my casts seemed good with the line falling gently onto the surface, while other times it just plopped down,

Re: Friday evening session. Hi n_d, thanks for your comments, the pic doesn`t really do justice to the sky that night, one of those stop you in your tracks moments, you had to see it, amazing! Sounds as if you`re moving to the forward cast a little too soon, not giving the line enough time to straighten out on the back cast. Are you fishing stillwater or river? Peter ![]()

Re: Friday evening session. Was fishing stillwater at a local reservoir which has steep banks behind, hence catching grass. Thanks I think your right, I do seem to back cast then go straight into the forward cast without waiting sometimes. I think it's a brilliant picture, but as you say nothings better than actually seeing it with your own eyes. I like that there are so many different colours, with the grey/blue, orange, yellow and whites, especially the yellow flowing through the orange like a stream of lava.

Re: Friday evening session. You mention steep banks behind you, the ideal cast to learn would be the Steeple cast, I use it at one of the fisheries I go to. There are a couple of videos on you tube demonstrating the cast. What about a roll cast? You won`t get a lot of distance, but it gets you out when the back cast isn`t on. Peter ![]()
