| No such thing as a bad day`s fishing. I finally managed a day`s fishing on the river (well a half day really, as I had to get back for a grocery delivery), although the best made plans and all that. I`d intended to be on the river for 7am at the latest, but alarm didn`t go off, so it was 8.30 before I got there. I wasn`t sure of the water height after all the rain, so I took two rods, a 9`0"5/6wt and my 7`0" 3wt. The water was ideal for the 7`rod, quite clear and at a good height. Set the rod up,then........f*#k, I`d left my Lamson 3/4wt reel at home. I put the 7 away and set up the 9`0" with a Vision Koma 5/6 reel loaded with a 4wt DT line and made up a 9ft x 5lb-3lb leader with one dropper. I tied a #16 Red Ribbed Spider on the dropper and a #16 S/T Gold head on point, not how I had meant to fish but..... Ready, set to go along the usual path, what a [b]difference[b]in two weeks ![]() ![]() ![]() The transformation was amazing, splashes of colour everywhere. Walked about 1.1/2 mile, slid down the bank and waded out, cast upstream and missed a take first cast. I was going to fish a dry with a nymph tied under, but not with the 9 footer, eventually I fished down and across, back down stream. About the 8th cast ,I finally landed one, thought at first it was a decent size, but the river trout fight well here. ![]() This used to be a good stretch, but has slackened off lately(looks great though). ![]() Taking trout every few casts, although mostly about 6 inches, a few between 1/4-1/2lb easily released with the crushed barbs. ![]() ![]() Cracking few hours and although not the way I wanted it, still great to be fishing again. | Re: No such thing as a bad day`s fishing. Great report and pictures and some good looking fish there, Dubbed Squirrel. Saw the first three photos and thought, gosh that river is overgrown a bit, no need for a big cast there, LOL. |

| Re: No such thing as a bad day`s fishing. Nice one Peter - great report and pics - even if you did sleep in !!!! I nipped back up my local lake on Saturday for a couple of hours, and I was surprised too at how much the grass, bushes, reeds etc had grown in the space of a few weeks (makes it easier for sneaking up on those pesky carp too). |

| Re: No such thing as a bad day`s fishing. Thanks for the great comments guys, it was good to finally get back on the river after almost 3 weeks. How did you get on at your lake Baz? It certainly was weetoonstoo, collected brownie points, so may go for a few hours this evening. ![]() ![]() |

| Re: No such thing as a bad day`s fishing. Hi Peter. I was going to do a catch report, but the couple of hours I was there was basically same as my other 2 recent reports from the lake - chum mixer - 3 carp, biggest 11.5 lb. Roasting hot at the lake though - my tshirt was sticking to me, polaroids steaming up, so the slightest breeze was welcome to try and cool down. |
