Oops!damn it. Down the river at 7 this morning, set up 8`0" 3/4wt with reel and 3wtf floater. Once ready set off along the path, to section I was going to fish, down from a tree came a grey squirrel and sat about 8ft in front of me. Reached into my pocket for my camera, did the bloody thing not catch on the velcro fastener, then in slow motion, fall to the ground hitting the only rock for yards around, taking a chunk out of the bottom and scaring the s*#t out of the squirrel .![]() I don`t know if that`s the underwater seal damaged, so can`t take a chance using that function. Tried it out during fishing, and it still works fine in normal mode. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Put a bit of a damper on the morning. There was a mid morning hatch, which lasted about 15 minutes then vanished, but an Olive Klink took quite a few as did a Bivisible. Fished the last part of the stretch mile with a couple of #16 wets, then packing up, I noticed this among the rocks and slate beds. ![]() I know there`s a problem further up stream, but this is the first I`ve seen this far down river. Gonna have to tell the club about it. Peter ![]()

Re: Oops!damn it. Hi Peter, sorry to hear about the camera - bit risky trying underwater shots I suppose incase it does leak. Nice photo's, river and banks looking good. Whats the problem with that last plant then? how does it affect the river ?

Re: Oops!damn it. Hi Baz,I`m toying with the idea of filling the chip with a silicone filler, although if it doesn`t work and water gets in the camera is well and truely....... My son`s trying to get it off me to use as an ordinary camera, so I may just treat myself to a new one . The plant is an invasive species known as Skunk Cabbage, and although not as bad as Japanese Knotweed or Himalayan Balsam, tends to colonise and it is hard to get rid of. The river is looking great, we had a great session on Friday afternoon/night, followed by a Magners or five . You not been fishing lately then, or have I missed your reports?Pe ter

Re: Oops!damn it. Peter - I havent been out really since last report where I was catching them on the surface at a local lake. I did go again the next afternoon, to use up remainder of the chum mixer, and ended up with 5 carp up to 10lb, but didnt post a report about that one - forgot - oops! Weather bit windy and cloudy at weekend. Might try some lure fishing for pike before canal gets too weedy and summer arrives.

Re: Oops!damn it. HI Pete, Pity about your camera was enjoying your under water shots of fish. Isnt your camera still under warranty or coverd on your house insurance. I t still takes nice clear photos, what is that plant you seem to have some conserns about ?

Re: Oops!damn it. Good shout Jeff, the warranty expired in March, but I never gave a thought to our house insurance. The plant is Skunk Cabbage, nothing near as bad as the other two I mentioned earlier (Himalayan Balsam and Japanese Knotweed), but an invasive species all the same. That plant has rooted in a bed of rock and slate, which is amazing. Cheers again for the insurance idea. ![]() Peter ![]()
