Re: Mill Farm Worton PHOTOS TO FOLLOW.... Had a fantastic day fishing in the searing heat with Ian, JP Dognobbler and The Russkie (Svetlana - aka Mrs Jerry Two Jackets) on Sunday. We met at 9, and after sorting out a licence for the missus, we made stop no. 2 at a cashpoint, then stop no. 3 for JP to fill up his trusty VW. Dognobbler's fly-fishing finger was getting twitchy, so we hastened off to commence the day's proceedings. After some negotiations with the owner regarding fees for The novice Ruskie and her tutor (Dognobbler), we all chose a few bargain flies (5 for a quid) from the shop and Ian, JP and I headed for the banks. Other fishermen were griping was that very few fish were being caught, though we did see one being played as we set up. Things were very slow for an hour or two, but Ian (inevitably) was first to strike, with a nice fish of about 3.5lbs. Duly photographed and dispatched, we felt a lot more positive, and there was the inevitable discussion about the type of fly to be deployed. By this time, The Russkie had hit the banks and, under the patient tutilage of Dognobbler, was joining in enthusiastically. JP hooked up, and came as close to landing as it's possible to be without actually landing! A feat he was to repeat two more times during the day before finally slipping the net under his first ever fly-caught trout later in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the novice had also surprised everyone - including herself - by hooking a fish while everyone's back was turned. Sadly it broke free, and shortly afterwards decided to hook itself on Ian's fly. No 2 for him. As luck would have it, another fish soon latched onto Svetlana's fly, and this one was safely landed. Then another for Ian... then another for Svetlana... then it all went quiet.... Time was getting on. ![]() We were all tired, sunburned and dying for a pint, but one of us (yours truly) had yet to have a bite. With much casting help from Ian I persisted for another hour or so until THUMP - 4lb 4 oz of prime trout decided to put us out of our misery. ![]() I may have confused the order of things a bit, but you get the general idea. A great day's fishing, with firsts for me, Svetlana and of course JP, who was grinning from ear to ear with his prize. ![]() We hastened to the pub, had a couple of beers and a couple of bags of crisps, then back home with our fish. I'd just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Ian and particularly Dognobbler for their patience and encouragement during the day; Svetlana and I are both very grateful, and look forward to the next time! ![]()

Great day out, but very difficult fishing due to the hot sunny conditions (Guess who forgot to take any suncream )I'd like to say a big thanks to Dognobbler (Pete) for his patience as a tutor. I think it was down to his instruction that we ended the day without anyone blanking & as Jerry has already said, the day was nicely rounded off with a couple of pints in the Bell at Great Cheverell. I don't think I was the only one to enjoy a Trout supper this evening. Jerry has the last laugh in his sensible sun hat... ![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...

Re: Mill Farm Worton Nice one and it is always a bonus if the missus gets a fish. You will get plenty more fishing if she gets into it. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk

Re: Mill Farm Worton It's a bit late as I write this as I was busy tucking into a nice trout supper . . A very enjoyable day out on a pretty little lake with great company , in the blazing sunshine too ! It might not of been great for the fishing but no one was complaining about an early taste of summer .As Jerry said I was doing a bit of catch & release ( at a distance ) before I managed to bank a fish . The first lost due to a badly tied knot my first rainbow on the fly , a nice plump 3 pounder . After that things slowed down considerably and I didn't get another touch for some hours , though Pete kept us entertained with plenty of hilarious bankside banter. I'd have been happy with my one landed trout but managed a little pound & half beauty at close of play . All my fish landed or otherwise fell to a green & black Montana . My first brace of rainbows ![]() Many thanks to my fellow piscators (& piscatorette) for making it such a great day out . ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
