Started late last night, as my mate was late from work. Picking off small trout from the 2nd cast, but on 7`0" rod 3wt line and a 2lb leader, they felt like monsters. We fished right through `til dark, and then some, losing count of the trout we caught. This changed after about 10pm, when bites were few and far between, but the fish we were catching were certainly getting bigger. I had 3 x 1/4lbers in a row, on a black and red bumble #16, but judging by the splashes, there were some bigger ones about, although you couldn`t see them in the dark. I cast towards the trees on the opposite side of the river let the fly run under some overhanging leaves and whack the rod bent almost double. It was a good size fish, but I was aware that I only had a 2lb leader on, so I adjusted the drag and let it run. It took 10 minutes to bring it to the net (my mate was about 100yds upstream from me), not the monster I thought, but a nice finish to the night. ![]() ![]() ![]() I thought this was a monster in the dark, but it finished off a good session. ![]() The last two pictures the flash coloured the eyes they`re not dead, honest----true ----- I`m not telling lies.![]() Peter ![]()

Re: Friday again. Nice one Peter. That swim in the top pic looks lovely, and a nice trout to finish off with too, its always more mysterious in the dark. Well done. I used to fly fish in the dark as a youngster, caught loads of branches, the back of my head, my mates jumper...and the odd trout!

Re: Friday again. Well done Peter as usual, believe it or not i am after the trout tomorrow! It's been a while since i have had the fly rod out after them so i reckon i'll leave it at home and give them a crack with a few wee mepps or maybe a nice bunch of worms. __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release!

Hi Baz, I still sometimes fish like that , I catch tree trout often. I was up at Milngavie on Thursday and took some photos of the fish ladder on the Allander at Gavin`s Mill, I`ll put them in the forum album, sorry but no fish wanted their photo taken.Peter ![]() Hi Jeff, I can fish the Clyde Valley for grayling, but this year we`ve decided to brave the elements and go sea fishing during the close. We`ve been plagued by small trout the last few times, so I thought light tackle and barbless hooks (well debarbed), but wouldn`t you know it, that`s when you get a good fish on . great wee session though.Peter ![]() Hi Justin, Shhh there`s a trout in the post for you , best of luck bud, I think I`d have a go with the worms first, or I could send you a few of my Squirrel tail spiders to convert you to fly fishing . Anyway may your trout be a monster.Peter ![]() |

Re: Friday again. Cheers Peter , i'll give all methods a bash! I'll bring my fly rod aswell just to cover all areas. Its a disused quarry, has been that way for near 200 years! no one knows about it apart from me and my fishing partners! I have had no trout out of it yet, after only 1 visit; but the other 2 men have fished it a few times and had brownies to 9lb! None below 6lbs, so far so here's hoping for a monster aswell! __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release!

Hi Justin, is there a feeder stream into the quarry? A friend of mine fished a similar water and tells me he had great results with fluor/lime power bait . Just thought I`d mention it. Good luck anyway, hope you get your trout .Peter ![]()
