The water was about a foot higher than normal, but reasonably clear. We started up past the golf course and decided to fish `til the light went altogether. I moved about 30yds downstream from my mate, 2nd cast took a small brown under overhanging branches/leaves. We were catching almost every 2nd or 3rd casts, although nothing big (all about 1/4lbs), but on a 7`0"rod, great sport. I`d made up a 10ft tapered leader--6lb-4lbs and 3lb fluorocarbon, with 2 droppers, top--a #16 Red Ribbed Spider middle--a #18Pearly Pennel point-- a#18 ST Gold Head, my mate using the same. Every time we hooked up, we called out the fly that caught, all did well, but the Pennel came out on top. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Half way back, the light started to fade, my rod was almost pulled out of my hands, massive splash, really big fish on, then nothing. When we checked leader, the hook on the Pennel had been straightened.(boo-hoo) Well we fished on for a while, even when we were buzzed by our friendly neighbourhood bats, common sight on the river, amazing creatures. And so endeth the session. Cheers, Peter ![]()

Hi, Thanks for the comments guys, my wife got me the camera for my last birthday. It`s a FUJIFILM WP Z, the underwater shots should have been better, but I forgot to change it to underwater mode . I still find it strange putting a camera under the water , doesn`t seem right. It was great catching trout in the dark, along a long shallow stretch (about 2ft deep at most), it just seems to heighten your senses. I think the fish that straightened the hook may have been a sea-trout, there`s a slate shelf runs along the left d/stream bank, that have been known to hold a few. Looking forward to next Friday after that. Cheers again guys.Peter ![]()

Hi Baz, It felt a cracking fish, but it was only a size 18 fly, but I`d tied it on a fine dry hook (not a very good one at that). We `re going to have a night sea-trout fishing soon, we had one near the end of the season last year didn1t get a sea-trout, but caught some really big browns after dark though. I checked my fly box, found a few more wets tied on that hook type, I think I remember running out of # 18 mediums and using them. Glad you had a good time, when are you posting?Peter ![]() Hi Paul, it`s a good wee camera for fishing, fits nicely into my top vest pocket. My wife tells me that it was about £160 mark, but that included a 2GB memory card too.Anyway this is the model I have. Peter ![]() ![]()

Re: Friday evening/night session. Good luck with the night session, Peter, keep us posted, as not doubt you will. Nice camera, dont know how you manage the cracking underwater pics, I am usually too excited to be catching a fish, that its hard enough to take a pic on the bank!!
