Sky weather finally got it right.

I`d like to start by congratulating Sky weather, for getting the weather right for my last available days fishing, before flying out. The last 3 days, they have forecast heavy rain, and one day of heavy showers, outcome? The sun has shone each day, with only a few intermingled light showers. Looked up today`s forecast last night, again the forecast was for "Heavy rain", aye right! I`m off fishing. Got down to the river, and set up, the water level was perfect after the rain last week. Waders on into the water, slight spit of rain, not too bad. Second cast "What the F#*@" , the heavens opened up and down it came. thought about sheltering under the trees, but if I did that, I knew I`d end up packing it in, besides this was an opportunity to see how my new Vision Vector jacket coped. End of part one.

I just watch the girl presenting it. The go online to a bunch of sites and amalgamate what they say. Then I look out the window.

Re: Sky weather finally got it right.

Between the jacket and waders, I was quite dry so I decided to fish on. By now the water running down the banks, was starting to discolour the river and I began to think a blank was on the cards. Dries were no good, the rain submerged them pretty quickly, so I put a dropper on and 2 wet flies, A #14 hackled Squirrel Tail on the dropper and a #16 gold head Squirrel on the point. I started to pick off trout here and there mostly on the hackled fly, all about the 1/4lb mark. Best fish a 3/4lb in great condition, really nice vibrant markings, jumped out of my hand as I fumbled for my camera, but at least I got to hold it. Fished in the rain for about 3.1/2 hours, but the river had risen by about foot in that time, so said my goodbyes to the river and packed up. Next session in St. Paul`s Bay Malta- next Saturday.

Peter

Sorry about quality of photos, but camera lens was getting wet as soon as I dried it. Peter

Hi Pete,
Pity about the rain the river should be in great condition while you are away.
Got out myself yesterday for a couple of hours managed to catch 8 trout to 1lb,
lost 1 a lot bigger it took a sise 16 hares ear fished under a olive klink up stream
seen it turn side on at least 3lb i think.
Good luck on your Hols .

Flyman

Re: Sky weather finally got it right.

Hi Jeff, It was nice to get back on the river again, although by the time I left it was a muddy chocolate brown. It`s went from one extreme to another, but at least there`s water in the system now. Unlucky with the fish, it would have been nice one to land. Missed a good one today myself, more to stupidity, than the conditions, it may have touched 1.1/2lbs max. When are you bass fishing again?

Hi Flyman,
Was you fishing the Ebbw, when you lost that 3lb fish, what stretch? Nice to see the river back up to a realistic level, hope to get out myself this week.

Hi Peter, shame about the rain (that 2nd pic says it all!), but at least you persevered and caught - 3/4 lber as well to boot. Bet your looking forward to having a bit of sun and relaxation in Malta..
