Re: Sky weather finally got it right.

Hi Baz, that pic. was taken when the rain let up a bit, it got so bad at one point that it was like fishing in a fog. I had a good fish on ,but got distracted by a deer crashing along the bank, the fish jumped and slipped the hook. I reckon it was about 300lbs lol, in reality 1.1/4lb +. Fly from Glasgow to Heathrow to Malta on 24th, looking forward to it as you say.

Re: Sky weather finally got it right.

Shame you lost that fish, nice trout by the sound of it. I have been to Malta lots of times, particularly in the late 70's when I was in the Royal Navy. We had a big base out there then, but then the Maltese kicked the Navy out etc, so navy ships didnt go in there that often after that. Bet its changed a bit since then..right enough I cant remember much about it, as I usually saw it through a drunken haze!

I know the very haze your talking about. We,ve been going there for years and have a few friends (locals and ex-pats), two of whom own pubs. Love the place.

GREAT report nice piks and some lovely fish landed .now i dont want to put a downer on your post but that river looks swolen and your fishing right in the middle of it what if younger members are reading your post and think its ok to fish in a swollen river ?this could potentially be very dangerous and its not something we as a forum want to promote is it ? tight lines and have a good hol

Re: Sky weather finally got it right.

Hi Dave, good point you made, safety first should be paramount when fishing. I have in a previous post, stated that the river has a shallow basin, on the stretches that we fish. For the most part, we`re never more than a few feet from the banks. Although the river looks swollen, it is stilll only 1-2 feet deep where I was wading. The best thing to do, for anyone who enjoys wading, is to check the river out when the water is at it`s lowest ie. during the recent dry spell. Not only do you see possible dangers, but you can also as we call it note addresses( Mr. Trout lives there and there) as the rocks and pools are visible. I never wade without a staff, more for balance than anything else and would advise anyone wading to do the same. Thanks for pointing it out though.
