Curley's trout fishery Horwich, Bolton.

Curley's has been fishing well over the last month. Plenty of double figure catches. Steve has stocked with bigger fish this last time. So you don't now if it will be 2lb or 7lb.

Re: Curley's trout fishery Horwich, Bolton.

There has been a problem on Curley's but has now almost cleared. It was thought the problem was caused by the amount of fish in the lake and the amount of repeat captures. But tests have shown it to be something that washed in via the stream that runs into the small lake which then runs into the big lake. Tests on the stream and the small lake show it to be back to normal and the big lake is almost clear. The stocking policy of 200 fish every two weeks will carry on as normal.

Re: Curley's trout fishery Horwich, Bolton.

Fished four hours on Saturday. Alternated between pike fly fishing and trout. Cats whisker fished two foot down scored 4 rainbows. 60 - 70 % of retrieves resulted in fish plucking the tails of the fly. If I hadn't been wanting to spend more time trying the new pike fly rod that I am now building and selling on my website www.tonykaycustomrods.co.uk I would have converted more nips to fish landed. Usually if you stop when they pluck they come back to take it.
The pike rod performed brilliantly. It is rated for a 10 weight but performed for me better with a 11 weight line. Large flies proved to be no problem. I will be selling it as a standard of the shelf item as well as custom options.
Most people fishing on Saturday where catching and I did not see any dead fish the water is now a lot clearer.

Re: Curley's trout fishery Horwich, Bolton.

Curlys Sunday 26th September,

I fished curlys for half a day on Sunday for the first time. The water looked fine, there were several anglers on both fly and pike fishers. Some that fished up the top end out of the wind did not do very well, but the lads that braved the wind seem to do quite well. It was a good half days fishing with 12 to the net ranging from 1.5lb to 3.5lb. I believe there are some bigger fish in there and I will defiantly return as soon as I get chance, for simple fishing with no fuss you can't beat it.

It always fishes well into the wind. Doesn't matter which way it's blowing.

Some good catches being made at curley's at the moment. Anything with a bit of white seams to be doing the bussines. Fish any where from the surface to 6 ft down

Yes they stock 200 fish every 2 weeks. It is a 6 acer water and the catch rates are reflected in the stocking policy.
