Change of Venue.

We were looking forward to our usual Friday session, but the river is almost unfishable due to the low water levels. We decided to try a small fishery just outside Glasgow for a few hours (it was about 5pm when we got there). Set up with a 5wt floating line 12ft 5lb fluoro. leader, single orange fritz fly. 2nd cast into 2lb rainbow on a slow fig.8 retrieve, great fight on 5/6wt rod, eventually netted after half a dozen jumps. An hour later my mate hooks into a fish also about the 2lb mark, netted the fish for him. Half an hour of nothing doing, then I hooked into a cracker again on the orange fritz, but it dived into a weedbed, SNAP it was off with my fritz still in it`s gob. To make matters worse, my mate hooks into another, just under 3lbs 20 minutes later, but netted it for him anyway. Last half-hour, I hooked into another good fish and had to give it some welly, to stop it going into the same weedbed, but mate finally netted 3.1/2lber for me. Long time since we fished for rainbows, but it made a nice change.

Hi Jeff, haven`t been to this fishery for a good few years, it`s changed owners too. It was great fun on light tackle, more than a few hairy moments, the rod was almost bent double with the one I lost. Still got my 2 fish in the end, but so did my mate so a draw in the end. Best of luck with the bass, look forward to hearing how you fare.
