Friday session part 2

[Dubbed Squirrel]

Possibly the strangest session yet, having caught about 30+ brownies, but not one over 1/4lb, in fact most were only 5-6inches. Over a mile and a half stretch, the river was full of them. Wets,dries, they smashed at everything, we changed down to #18s and 2lb leader, ferocious wee beggars. A bit disappointed not to get among the bigger fish, but fun on light tackle. Out come of the challenge--------a draw, as we stopped counting. The wrist feels not too bad, so roll on next Friday. This is the stretch we fished.

Hi Pete,
Looks like you are having a great time on them spider patterns,
them big fish will show up soon .
That river looks a big river compared to the ones i fish which are very low at the moment.
IT is raining heavy at the mo so hopefully i will be out tomorrow or monday.

Hi BW, these are all last year`s hatch, so looks good for the future. Lots of smolt too, because of the low water, we really do need some heavy rain. Peter


Hi Jeff, I used the wide angle lens on the camera and the river has a shallow bed in some parts, that make it look big. It`s definitely my favourite of the 3 we fish. We`re getting some rain although not heavy at the moment too, so maybe a few hours during the week. Best of luck your next outing.

That is a beautiful stretch of river, shame the bigger fish didnt show....

Hi Baz T, It`s normally about 1ft higher than this, but it`s a favourite of ours. One and a half miles of treelined water, that is a pleasure to fish and teeming with wildlife. Talking to some other anglers from the club, they`re having the same problems elsewhere with parr and smolt. I`m thinking of going for a few hours tomorrow, as we`ve had some rain today. We might be going up to the Glazert next week, if we do I`ll post some photos for you of your old stomping ground. Peter.

Meant to say I`ve decided to take my 7`0" 3wt, managed to get 3lb fluoro. today so that`s me sorted.

Hi Pete,
cracking picture of that yellow fly any clue of its name
im hopeless?
Ive heared there been quite a few yellow flies hatching so just tied a few
to try tomorrow if theres any about.Im rearing to go after seeing your photos again
that rain we had today should have freshend the river up.

Hi Jeff, I always thought it was a Yellow May Dun, though I might be wrong. As you say there are lots of them on the river just now, so I might tie a couple of dries before I go tomorrow. Just had a phone call from my mate, it is a YMD, he has a good fly database on his PC. Have a good one tomorrow. Peter
