A few hours last night I went for a few hours fishing last night (have to practice for Friday). The river looks great apart from the lack of rain, it`s just bubbling over the rocks at some parts. Loads of minnows (see pics) just now in the shallows. evening hatch Ispotted this from the bank. Had a few 1/4lbers on a fly I`d just tied, in fact it accounted for most. It was a #16 black spider pattern with a red wire rib, 3touching turns mid body. My secret weapon for Friday ![]() cheers Peter.

Re: A few hours last night It certainly is BW, plenty of food for the trout. Peter Hi Jeff, it`s ok, my mate`s a member of another forum (not as good as this one), so we can tell absolute whoppers about each other . This is the pattern, I only tried it for the first time last night. the smaller is the one I used last night you can see the state of it compared to the #14. Oh I fished it mostly down and across, with a very slow fig. 8 retrieve. I also fished it upstream, but with the low water weed, I had to clean it nearly every cast. Another deadly one is one I tie with the fur from the base of a squirrel tail (Dubbed Squirrel, sound familiar?) as dubbing, which I tie hackled or as a gold head. It`s quite spikey when finished, but the trout nail it. Peter![]()

Re: A few hours last night Just checked out the album Peter, Great photo's too - too many nice ones to pic a favourite, but the ice n snow ones are possibly my faves. As I said before, your reports always remind me of my very early teens, fly tying, and trout fishing in the Glazert mainly, but I did try the Kelvin at Kirkintilloch sometimes, and also the burns and small streams in the Kilsyth hills - it was some trek up the "Tak me Doon" road to get to the fishing spots, and I believe the Kelvin starts up in that area in any case. I used to fish a small stream that ran through Kilsyth (though not the town centre part, on the outskirts, perhaps that was the Kelvin too?) and we had a couple of trout to 2/3lb one day when it was in spate, though that was the one and only time we had fish that size out of it. The Kelvin at Kirkie wasnt very productive when I fished it (40 years ago) but looks like a cracking river now.. and..good luck with the competition, looking forward to hearing your report.. Barry
