Snow and Ice!

Hi forum.

Are any of you guys struggling with the snow, ice and cold weather ? I have kept going relentless of the conditions to my local water. Not been very successful though, just the odd Brownie on the black buzzer. They dont seem to respond to anything else?

Madness

It was cold and wet and windy. Two men met in the street.

"Where're you going?" "Football."

"You're mad. In weather like this? Why don't you come with me?."

"Where are you off to?" "Fishing."

Merry Christmas to all members and a happy tight lined new year.

Re: Snow and Ice!

Believe it are not guys at this time of year even when the water is frozen the rainbows offer great sport. I am fishing a fly comp on boxing day as i do every year and my g-tec 9foot 6" is all set and ready it will be down deep useing fast sinking line and a boobie/very lightly dressed like a hairs ear dressing with 2 floating eyes deadly. 2nd rod 9foot 6" hardy angel te with floating line 20 foot leader and a bloodworm. I do have blank days not many but when i do its normaly when its hot when fish get lathargic and go off the feed till the evening when its cooler. Come on guys get those fly rods out, great sport.

Re: Snow and Ice!

u probably already know this, but the water will always be warmest (4 deegres) just off the bottom.
i find i have some luck with fritz lures. let them go right down, then bring up in quick bursts. will nearly always get the fish on the first pull up. :)

Re: Snow and Ice!

Unable to go to the flounder meet, I crept dowen to the Brue, no joy spinning, although a good walk watching the masses of Starlings and a decent sunset.
Lane to the house is very icy, and just had a load of snow, sadly I walk to work and have a supply of grit here to get the lane open.

Re: Snow and Ice!

Fly fishing is cold on the hands mate this time of year, but one way to keep warm is not standing in one spot for to long no more than 5-6 casts then move and so on, in 20 minutes your snug as a bug in a rud and your hands warm up as blood gets pumped through your body. I were thermal gloves mate this time of year fishing the boobie, but on the buzzer, floating line very long leader i move like the wind every cast i move. and cant wait till boxing day till the match begins. Rainbows beware im a comin. I hate fishing when its very hot. Well done though 3 fish is allright mate.
