| Re: fly fishing in the west lothian/northlanarkshire area Having relocated in the last 2 years from West Lothian to Angus, I have to say I miss the variety of reservoirs/lochs. Whilst there are still a few challenging venues up here in Angus, they will never match the quality & quantity of West Lothian. Not having any personal favourites, I find each one has its own merits/challenges. Why not have a go at each one then make up your own mind! Morton & Selm Muir (Livingston) Parkley, Bowden Springs & Linlithgow Loch (Linlithgow) Beecraigs (Bathgate Hills) Bangour (Dechmont) Crosswood (A70/Lang Whang road) Allandale Tarn (Polbeth) Pottishaw (Whitburn) Ballencrieff (Bathgate) There seems to be a newish venue up near Harburn Golf Course, havent personally tried that one in particular. If you wish to extend the boundaries, you could try Newmills (Lanark) Hillend, Lily Loch & Roughrigg (Past Harthill/Blackridge) Swanswater & North Third (Bannockburn/Stirling) Hopetoun (Queensferry) You are spoiled for choice in what I consider to be one of the premier areas for trout fishing, and you still have to consider the naturally stocked waters/rivers. Harperrigg, River Almond |
