Question Tope marks off Saundersfoot????

Hello All
This summer I am planning on taking the boat down to Saundersfoot to have a go at the tope - does anyone know what sort of ground they like, what state of tide etc or, even better, is anyone willing to tell a couple of marks? I will be pouring over the charts but any help would greatly appreciated.

Re: Tope marks off Saundersfoot????

the channel buoy between caldey island and giltar point is where the once welsh record tope was caught. it weighed 74lb i believe....
there is a patch of rough ground not far from here - the name of it escapes me but it is on the charts..

hope this helps?

Thanks Jaun
Yes, the record was in Tenby in 1976. I grew up in Saundersfoot but left when I was 15 (familly decisions). All grown up now with a boat but no marks. Your place seems a good place to start. I am doing as much research as I can.

Re: Tope marks off Saundersfoot????

just to update this thread we motored the boat straight through carmarthen bay and round the back of caldey island then up the coast and into the haven for its new berth at neyland.
i couldnt take my eyes off the echo sounder all the way but most noticeable was a depth of 108ft just behind caldey sharply rising to 55ft and then dropping off into a 80ft deep trough. was rough ground and looked ideal hunting grounds for the tope!!!
was about quarter mile off caldey - dont have co-ordinates sorry coz was travelling at 28knots!
