ok, my recent sucses has got me hooked on smoothies and i want to try to get some more but im not 100%sure about how to about it
best bait is either hermit or peeler right??
rig im not sure about, i know theres only 1 hook but im not sure about where and hook lengths and breaking strian etc..
also, what strentgh main line would you advice??

Sounds like you hooked on these smutts now!!

I'll tell you what i would use for the beach.....main line i would go to 25lb and 50lb shock leader should do the job! for the rig i would use a cliped down single hook rig made up with 50lb shock leader and 30lb hook length!! try not to use crimps as they weaken the line and most probably would be to blame for a snap off from a hound!! the reason i would go so heavy is that as you know they give a great fight and did you notice the hook length you had? i bet it was rough where the fish had rubbed it!! try to change them as often as needed! hope some of this has helped you and im sure you gonna get plenty of help on this thread!!

thats prob why i lost the 2nd fish, messed up line
afew more questions about the rig, what sort of lenth should the whole thing be clipped down??
what should i use if not crimps?? 3 way swivels?? or the type of knot which is used in macky feathers or is there another way which i dont know about??
o yeah, what type of hook and which hook size?? i caught both the 1s the other day on size 1 abberdens (might have been 1/0 but cant remember)

Right i hope you can understand this!!

for the length of the rig i use a 3foot hook length which i clip up the rig and down to the weight again!! Have you ever used tellephone wire for rigs? if not give it a go cause it dont put any kinks in your line and very easy to move your rig to different depths!!(giz a shout if you lost mate via pm!) try using less knots even if it means making you rig on your shock leader!!(works good) less knots you use the more fish you'll land! and as for the hooks i use.....Mustad ultrapoint Big Gun size four! hope this helps!!

right well i understand all of it apart from the telephone wire part, is that for the hook lenth or the main trace or what??

Pulley rig is what i use with a single size three hook or a size 2 and three hook pennel rig.
Seventy lb trace and fourty lb hook length.
Bait has got to be peeler or hermit and if i cant get that squid at a push.
One of the main things though is set your drag well loose after casting and use your reel like a baitrunner. Many a rod has been lost to Smutt heaven and never been seen again.
