Re: smoothounds from the shore Ben, Most common use for rig tubing (in the smaller diameter sizes) is for making a form of stop knot on snoods used in clipped rigs. Cut a small length about quarter of a cm and pass snood line through it once. Then bring line back and pass line through again from same side and pull tight to make a stop. This moves freely on the snood but combined with a small bead and sequin (or just sequin on it's own) it stops bait flying up snood when casting. I only use it in clipped rigs. No point on flapper rigs as wind resistance pushes bait onto hooks anyway. Does this make sense? By the way, where do you go fishing for your smoothhounds? I've fished for them for many many years in the Solent so I may be able to help you out. Chris

Re: smoothounds from the shore Ben, Forgot to mention. Re power gum go for 10 lb ultima power gum if you can get it. Make a stop knot using 4 turns inside, and clip tags leaving small tag ends only. If ultima not available go for 14 lb drennan. This is okay but doesn't knot as smoothly as the ultima. Chris

Re: smoothounds from the shore Lee on Solent is good. On your side of Southampton Water also consider Hill Head (very busy, shoulder to shoulder, but can be electric) and Browndown. I tend to fish the other side such as at Lepe or Park Shore but mainly Sowley. __________________ http://www.cdfc.co.uk
