Question smoothy hunting!!!

i have three weeks off from college and i am going to spend most of it fishing.

i have read about BEN's smoothy skills and exploits and i want to bag one myself as they look like beautys!

anyway, i would start hunting them down at hope's nose using crab baits.

i just need to know from people that are better experienced than me and more knowledgable on the subject whether my efforts are going to waste or if it really is worthwile going for them at this time of year and if i am likely to get them around this way!
i know nothing is for certain but i need some info, i have never caught one of them before!

Re: smoothy hunting!!!

yes, the smoothies will be down soon. after hearing the news from up bens way, hopefully they are on the way down.

all we need is a bit of summer weather and i will be out with my carp rods just off the ness beach or hopes nose, with peeletr as bait and my drag ready for one of these to rip line off the reel.

Talking Re: smoothy hunting!!!

good, they will be here soon then!
i might go and try and get them there, any winning tactics like rigs, bait size, tides, weather, time of day/night ETC....ETC....????

i will be taking some peeler down hopes nose for wrasse during the day time so if i have any left i will try my hand at some smoothys, should be good on a bass rod (or is that to light?)
thats another point, what line strengh am i going to need for these things???
