| Re: whats the best bait for tope Generally mackerel, but the local variatios are enormous, some areas silver eel section is best but only in areas where you would find lots of these fish eg Theams estury, In the Bristol channel pollack, whiting and pouting all are best if you are fishing where you find those fish etc. You will find that people swear by dab as bait but again only where you find lots of these fish. As I am not sure about which fish you would expect to find in the area you are fishing then I could say Mackerel will be in the top 3 baits and squid won't be that far behind |

| Re: whats the best bait for tope Hi Up in yorkshire we use makkie dabs whiting & pollack as bait the rubby dubby is the thing that gets the tope into a feeding frenzy ( Do not use onion sacks )but a bucket with a lid drill i/2 ins) holes in the bucket and use airo elastics to hold the lid on tight also dont tye the bucket to the anchor line you will have to put a brick into the bucket for weight to make it sink just drop it over the back of the boat and let the tide take it away 20/30 yards is a enough then cast your baits near the bucket (this keeps the tope ) away from the side of the boat for unhooking i use wire traces & 100lb nylon with 200lbs swivels the trace is made like this (8/0 circal hook and 1ft wire (the wire is crimped) to a swivel then 6ft nylon to another swivel onto your 60lb leader your lead weight runs along the leader only this helps you unfasen the weight when you bring the fish along side to unhook the only fish i or we bring inside the boat is a good one to take a picture if your on your own what you do is bring the fish along side and as you do start slackening the clutch off trap the rod between your legs take the lead off hold the line with your left hand put your rod in a rodholder slacken the clutch right off (should the fish run) just let go of the leader and let it go then start again once at the side of the boat T bar the fish off (or do as i do) with the camera in my right hand take a quick shot of the fish along side) then T bar it off i do have some shots of tope ive caught off the east coast and up in scotland (Luce Bay) ill have a look for them and try and post them its great fishing and i only use light boat rods and uptiders hope you make sence of what ive put on here if not P/M me and ill try and explain tightlines Alain |
