tope fishing scotland

Hi there, was planning a tope fishing trip for this june/july and was wondering if anyone could suggest any good shore marks for me to try out. I live in fife but will will be going for a few days so am happy to travel. Have never caught a tope before but have done all the research and bought all equipment, just need a destination.

Many thanks for any help and advice given.

Ronnie

Re: tope fishing scotland

Hi Ronnie ive been going to s/w scotland for the last 10 years im a tope fishing NUT where are you staying if near drummore Ardwell Isle of whithorn then i can help you Ha Ha we stop at the new england bay caravan site for three weeks holiday every june into july then back again end of august into september at drummore there is a channel that runs all the way to ardwell at low water (depending on tide hight) i can reach it with a frozen makkie bait cast with a beach caster rod its a good 70 to 80 yard cast if you carnt cast that far dont worry buy a cheap Inflatable kidds boat from argos in stranraer and row your baits out (dont put just the bait in the boat) as when you drop it over it will pull back and out of the channel) take your rod with you drop the bait down then row back to the beach set the clutch on your reel so a tope can pull line off and it Will you need about 100 plus yards plus the line to the bait so the reel MUST hold (250 300 yards) of 20lb line this is what you need good rod and reel 20lb main line onto a 70lb shockleader with a running lead onto a tope trace (from Ardwell Marine) a bucket with holes in and a lid a line with a buoy on the end A ( big float) will do put a big stone into the bucket fill with chopped And mashed up makkerel row the lot out drop into the channel then drop down your bait row back to shore put your rod on a holder (Tripod sand spike) slacken the clutch off a bit so a fish can take line and wait when mr tope comes along you will know you will doggy do do yourself the fight is on good luck tightlines Alain PS there is a sharkAtag meeting on the 18 19 & 20 of june up dunfries & Galloway ill be there at drummore staying at New England Bay site just where the channel is ill have my boat with me
