Question Multiplyers for Tope

Hi Guys,
im going on a boat trip to hopefully catch some tope at Fleetwood, i havent got a clue about what type of reel to use. Im a carp fisherman and i am used to a baitrunner/fixed spool, im aware that i need to get used to the dreaded multiplyer reel.
All ive heard is bad news about these bird nest beauties. can anyone help? i really dont know where to start.

Re: Multiplyers for Tope

hi any multiplyer will do i recon as long as youve got the line capacity for the long runs that the tope run to , something fairly cheep will do like an okuma 30L or 300L i think are the same reel ive got about 5 of em and they cope with the job i only use 25 diawa sensor mainline great line with good abraision resistance / really strong for the diameter too / with 30lb class boat rods or even 20lb / keep the gear light and its a hole lot more fun/
/ tope will probably grow to around 90lb and you`ll really know if you get one of those on light gear / we had about 40 in 5 days / biggest was 75 but we`d got snapped and bitten off a good few time wich woul;d leave me to believe there are bigger ones out there /
tight lines/ and dont fall in !!! they got teeth!

Re: Multiplyers for Tope

I have to agree with Blumath, almost any boat mutliplier will be OK. You normaly get birds nests from casting multipliers, or if you fail to let out the line on a boat multiplier without pressure. Just keep your thumb on it and let it down in controled manner and you will be fine

Hi ive a mate that uses (beach fixed spool) reels when uptiding out of my boat tope fishing off the yorkshire he never has a problem your baitrunners will do the job as long as you have a good line and plenty of it its great fishing tightlines Alain
