Re: Can anyone teach me to make flies?

There's stacks of books on the subject (Try Amazon or your local second-hand book stockist)

Plenty of advice on line too

try
http://www.flyanglersonline.com/flytying/beginners/

to get you started (its slanted to American flies, but the principles are the same)

There is also an excellent British magazine - website
http://www.flyfishing-and-flytying.co.uk/

and come back here if you have any specific problems.

There's NO WAY they could hold up to a fly cast.

Mayflies under a bobber are GR8 for bluegill!!!!

Actually live mayflies and daddy longlegs (Crane Flies) are frequently used in Scotland and Ireland. . the technique is called dapping, instead of a standard fly line, a very lightweight floss line is used which billows out on the wind and it's possible to fish at quite long distance. very long rods of anything up to 20feet are used and the technique is to let the natural flit about on the surface, then lift the rod and let it fly off only to land again a few feet away...takes can be spectacular with trout coming from the depths and rocketing out of the water to attack the bait. It's becoming less popular these days and often where dapping is still practiced articials are used (normally great big bushy dry hackled flies) nice article here http://www.fishandfly.co.uk/jbedit0699.htmlabout the technique.

Re: Can anyone teach me to make flies?

Yes Droppenfish.
I've never heard of using live bait for it tho. I've dappled w/a flyrod. Artificial spiders, mosquitos, Thistle seed, the list goes on.
Bluegill go nuts for that too. There's a tiny puddle of a city pond in Papillion, the town just south of mine, where we used to "Dapple" in the 3' or 4' gap between the bank and the weed mat. And just past the 4'of weeds.
