Re: fly fishing for pike... Help!

Well I finished up with 20lb mono to 2' of Authanic trace tied with a water knot, a size 12 snap on clip to follow and then clipped on to the fly. This was fished on a 9' #9 weight Airflow rod, loaded with a wf 9 floating line. I had some real trouble casting with this, especially with the heavier flies. The only way I could get any distance was to double haul my guts out!!!! Anyway luck has it that I did manage to bag one critter.

I did not have any scale so I can't tell you the weight, anyone care to estimate?
All in all I had a good evening up at the springs and I have just ordered a wf 10# floater from Piketrek.com so I hope that it helps with the casting,
I'll keep you posted.

Re: fly fishing for pike... Help!

I received the Wf 10 line that I mentioned and decided to give it a go this
evening. Armed with a heavier line and some new flies/lures that I tied a few
days ago. I tied some Roach flies, I got the pattern from Uncle Greg on
Youtube @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kza-otd65EA
and bought the material from Piketrek.com, great quality and a fair price I think.
Request that uncle Greg gifts us with some more of his great patterns!!!!!!! if he can hear me?
without going on and on I jump straight to the point. Yes the line did the trick fabulously and what a good quality line for the money. I can Cast the big flies with minimal effort now :) so good that I had full control of the fly and was able to pick this toothy critter out from under a tree with a cast that was 4' above and parallel to the water. If you can hear me uncle Greg cheers for the roach pattern it did the job just lovely.

Re: fly fishing for pike... Help!

Thank You very much Mr Twatter :)
Really so heavy? I am pretty good at gestimating trout, I don't have enough experience with these creatures though. I have heard that there is equation and if you measure the fish then you can quickly work out its weight? What weight do you think the second pike is then, If you don't mind that is?
Cheers again m8.
