| Re: A few good river flies. hope these turn out better ![]() ![]() The first is a Green Pennel (I`ve tied them in a size 12 for showing, although they`re normally in 14-16-or 18) ![]() Black thread level to the point of the hook, then tie in a 1/2doz. Gold Pheasant tippet fibres. ![]() Tie on some green tinsel for the body ![]() Lastly tie in hackle (black cock hackle) and apply varnish to head. Red Ribbed Spider (this is a great catcher on our river). As before black thread for body then tie in red wire, touching turns to cover wire. ![]() Tie on black cock hackle and apply varnish head. ![]() Squirrel Tail, my absolute favourite as a wet or dry it does the biz. ![]() Black thread level to point of hook and tie in fine copper wire for ribbing. Wax thread and dub on some squirrel tail fibres from the base of the tailand form body. Rib with the copper wire, but don`t trim the body, the scruffier the better. finish with a grizzle hackle and varnish head ![]() I gink it up as a dry or apply sinkant and use as a wet, good both ways. Light Olive variant, a good dry when there`s a hatch on. Tie on olive floss level to point of hook and tie in black head.Tie in two feather ears as wings ![]() Choose a stiff olive cock hackle and varnish head to finish ![]() I use the same pattern using darker olive for a Dark Olive. ![]() Snipe and Purple, I tie this with or without a copper rib. Purple silk tied level to point of hook (at this point, tie in copper rib), black thread to form head. ![]() Form hackle with light grizzled cock hackle and varnish head to finish.. ![]() These are simple flies to tie. but great catchers. Hope they do as well for you if you decide to try them. Peter ![]() |
