Wire woven flies

Last year i was at the spring fly fair, one of the first people to bump into was Mark Romero and Misako Ishimura.
Mark is an art fly tyer from Arkansas and Misako is chair woman of the Japanese fly fishing team.
During the show on the Saturday i was showing the guys some experimental flies that i had been working on,these were wire woven flies.
This stemmed from watching Olive Edwards tying up woven stone flies.
By the end of the show we had tied up several patterns and it was only when i got back to Ireland that i came up with a series of wire woven nymphs that Peter Oreilly and myself tried out for Salmon and trout.
The results were amazing for Salmon and seatrout.
Not satisfied with this i decided to mess around with dabblers and while at Lough Mask i came up with a selection of wire woven dabblers.
These have proved to a geat pattern for taking Dollaghan and Salmon on the rivers and are being field tested on the Loughs at this very moment.
First results are that the woven peter ross has showed great promise as all five guys have caught at least 8 fish on these yesterday.
That is why i am posting the photos for you guys to try them out and let me know how you fair with them.
Enjoy

Re: Wire woven flies

Hello Flyman
i have put a larger photo on so you can get some idea of the weave.
Also if you go to you tube there is an instruction video of how to weave the fly or better still Oliver Edwards has a dvd that demonstrates different weaves
here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-S6ajoUvhU

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as i do
regards
Lawrence

Re: Wire woven flies

Hi Lawrence. After you told me about these I had a play, but with a different effect-

Closer weave is all, now what you said about holo tinsel under the weave making a big difference.

Anyone wanting to learn this weaving technique I'll try and get a tutorial done.

Cheers,
Crackaig.
