Novice In Need Of Some Serious Help!!!! Hi guys i wonder if u can help, ive recently taken up fly fishing with not much success in catching anything, ive been to locks rivers and streams on about 4 or 5 occasions but having no joy, i think i have all the correct gear(#5 scierra 4 pce fly rod with no 5 wf line floating and intermediate, waders, waistcoat, and what i believe to be a decent selection of dry, wets and nymphs) but i dont know if im not setting up correctly or my methods are no good, i purchased a book and have read into the basics quite vigorously but somethings not right, any pointers or idea's would be welcome as i believe ive mastered the casting part but just no fish, is it where im looking for them???????

Re: Novice In Need Of Some Serious Help!!!! Without actually seeing what you are doing its quite difficult giving any practical advice however I would strongly suggest that you either join a local fishing club or society, such clubs will probably have club outings, this would give you a good opportunity to fish alongside more experienced anglers who would probably be only too happy to point you in the right direction.

Re: Novice In Need Of Some Serious Help!!!! It could be simply the time of year July and August can be the worst time to fish, where have you been fishing? Contrary to popular belief flyfishers are a friendly and helpful bunch I am sure if you ask the people around you they will give you some tips. when I started I went out about 5 times before I caught anything then when i finally got one it was 14lb! Never managed to catch any as big since.

Re: Novice In Need Of Some Serious Help!!!! Scotia, ive been fly fishing at the lilly loch at airdrie and on the clyde, i would like to join a fishing club but i get images of 50+ year old men getting away from the wife and just throwing a line in then waiting for something to happen. i love fishing on rivers but where do i go, what should i be looking for, should i just put away my fly rod nearer the end of the season and just use is at start when there are more insect life on the water, i think ive got the casting part sorted(took me long enough) and i have read books and studied some stuff online but i think somethings wrong, any flies dry or wet u would suggest as killer flies?
