| Re: Fly reel problem Not a big problem mate, just turn it so the handle is on the left, not sure if this reel has a disc drag if so you will have to strip the line off and wind on in opposite direction, this will mean that when you wind it on there is no drag but when pulling line off there will be drag hope this helps __________________ http://fishinghideawayeire.webeden.co.uk/ |

| Re: Fly reel problem Yes it is disc drag mate Done what you said and the line will be coming off at the top of the reel instead of the bottom, does this matter? |

| Re: Fly reel problem I think it will be worth stripping the line of and rewinding so it leaves the reel at the bottom . |

But you must be able to adjust the mechanicals of the reel, otherwise you will be winding in against the drag. All my reels are very easily adjusted and came with a set of instructions on how to do it. Otherwise I would bin it and get a decent reel from a retailer who will ask you which hand you reel in with and set up the reel to suit. If he can't, he shouldn't be in the tackle business. |

| Hi everyone! I'm James and I will start fly-fishing this year. I already bought some equipment but especially the range of fly fishing reels is confusing me... One of my mates recommended Z-Reels (http://www.z-reels.de/home.html) but before buying one I'd just like to make sure that it is the right choice.. Does anyboby know Z-Reels? Any experience? Any comments? Anybody knows where I can buy them in the UK? Thanks for your help.. James |

There are lots and lots of good fly reels on the market which do not cost a fortune. Names like Pfleuger, Vision and Greys come to mind. Visit your local tackle shop who specialises in fly gear. |

| Re: Fly reel problem james bell reel problem strip off all the line, reverse the slip knot on the spindle, and rewind. thread the tip of the line after winding on,above the bottom guide or roller on the cage towards the first ring this should. make the line come off spool at the bottom and stops the line from jamming in the top of the reel. As ron clay said could cause a lot of problems.and the drag may be wrong as Isle of innisfree said. i do not use drag no need, finger on spool will do the trick for trout. I fish right handed winding ,and most of the older generation still do |

| Re: Fly reel problem Just had a look at my Odyssey reel , I have it set up for left hand wind with the line coming off the bottom, the drag works correctly with this set up so you shouldn't have a problem there once the line is wound to suit . I know they are an inexpensive reel but I've been happy with mine, I found the drag smooth and useful in landing a 10lb carp last year. |
