| which rod to buy? hi there, i have only ever fished rivers and i use a #5 vision attack 8'6" rod. I would like a change and fancy trying a fishery, reservoir and lochs. but 1 thing at a time....lol. probably be a fishery first, bank fishing. whats the best set up to buy #6/7 or #7/8 rod as an all rounder for the above 3. any help would be grateful. thanks iron-blue................ ![]() |

| Re: which rod to buy? they are both a good choice of rod weight but i would go for the 7/8. it i'll get you that bit futher out and will help against winds. But it might be a bit heavy for the wild brownies if thats what your meaning by lochs, although you could use your 5 weight for that. | Re: which rod to buy? A #7/8 rod will be fine but why climb do far up the line rating scale? Rod weight is generally irrelevant, a #6/7 rod will cast just as far with some practice. |

| Re: which rod to buy? I'm a big fan of keeping it light. i'd say 697. In fact I rarely go above a 6# weight for any of my fishing & that includes for big waters like Chew & Blagdon. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: which rod to buy? I'm with greenheart on this one, I use a 9ft 5wt for most of the time , and a 9ft 6" 6/7 wt for sinking lines . I can cast better than most people with these and cast all day without tiring. I always felt I outgunned trout with the 7/8 rod I was sold as a beginner .The only rod I use heavier now is 9ft 9wt for pike , you need the heavier line to cast big wind resistant flies. BobC |
