| Flies for warm sea fishing Hi All, I live in Dubai, UAE and I plan on taking up fly fishing here. What I would like to know is what ready made flies are good for what species of fish?? The fish that I would be targeting here are: Grouper (Hamour) Barracuda Dorado King Mackeral Queen Fish Amberjacks and maybe even Yellowfin Tuna Anyway any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Most fish are taking silver/blue (Rapala/storm/yo-zuri) lures but the red/white (storm/rapala) lures are good for grouper & barracuda. So I would think that flies of that colour would also be good but not too sure???? __________________ Tight Lines, Ian Harper (fishemirates) www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org Remember ....... | Re: Flies for warm sea fishing I'd imagine some of the big UK & American Pike patterns would work well. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Flies for warm sea fishing Have a search on the web for salt water flies. I have found that you need a variety, as one day they will only take blue and gold and the next it has to be red and silver. Did you manage to get yourself a rod, reel and fly line yet? __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk |

| Re: Flies for warm sea fishing Heres a good fly to use near reefs and rocks It imitates a small needle fish (relative of the garfish)of which you will find hundreds in tropical waters. | Re: Flies for warm sea fishing Hi there, I lived in Dubai for just under 3 years and did a bit of fishing while i was there but spent most of my time under the water with mask and tanks. the thing i remember about the fishing is that the fish will take just about anything. the best people to speak to are the ones who run the fishing charters from the hotels. don't know if he is still there but a bloke called chris used to run the charters from the Jumeirah beach hotel. he taught me loads about warm water fishing in general. if you pick the right spot, a plain but shiny 6.0 will take a fish. or try making your own. |

| Re: Flies for warm sea fishing Choice of fly for those species you have mentioned is easy. Clouser Minnow in a variety of colours and Lefty's Deciever. There are others of course but this simple selection will catch you a lot of fish. Clouser Minnows must be the easiest fly to tie in the world |

| Re: Flies for warm sea fishing Once you have seen close-up the armament a barracuda has in its mouth, you will forever handle it with great respect. If it is a large fish, use a long-handled gaff and sink the point just behind the head, then swing the fish into the box as quickly as possible. Smaller fish can be lifted by the wire leader. However, large ones should be released because of the danger of ciguatera poisoning from eating them. The only way to safely release a large fish is to cut the wire with pliers as near to the mouth as possible, remembering that barracuda frequently choose to jump when at the boat. Smaller fish can be handled by grasping them behind the head with a gloved hand while dislodging the hook with pliers with the other hand. |
