Flies for warm sea fishing

Hi All,

I live in Dubai, UAE and I plan on taking up fly fishing here. What I would like to know is what ready made flies are good for what species of fish??

The fish that I would be targeting here are:

Grouper (Hamour)
Barracuda
Dorado
King Mackeral
Queen Fish
Amberjacks
and maybe even Yellowfin Tuna

Anyway any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Most fish are taking silver/blue (Rapala/storm/yo-zuri) lures but the red/white (storm/rapala) lures are good for grouper & barracuda. So I would think that flies of that colour would also be good but not too sure????

Re: Flies for warm sea fishing

I'd imagine some of the big UK & American Pike patterns would work well.

Have a search on the web for salt water flies. I have found that you need a variety, as one day they will only take blue and gold and the next it has to be red and silver.

Did you manage to get yourself a rod, reel and fly line yet?

Re: Flies for warm sea fishing

Heres a good fly to use near reefs and rocks

It imitates a small needle fish (relative of the garfish)of which you will find hundreds in tropical waters.

Retrieve in sharp jerks

Re: Flies for warm sea fishing

Getting my tackle today (as already posted in fly fishing form threads) but the guy is also going to show which flies are good for the local waters ..... he makes them himself and he allows you to try them first (his own kit) then he will make them for me ...... so when I have them I will take photos and post them on here
