Re: Fly Fishing For Carp Loose feed with maggot and once the carp are feeding use a size 14 Peach Doll which they will take "on the drop" Works with roach and rudd too. or if you to want to do it the hard way, I know a guy who regularly catches carp on a slowly retrieved Pheasant Tail nymph. __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond

Re: Fly Fishing For Carp what has never let me down is spun deer hair (white) on a size 4 - 8 hook... looks like bread and i seem too always get carp go for it, although trim the deer hair so you dont miss any strikes near the hook point.. if you want too chum them up it will make life one hell alot better.. also try some dog biscuit imitations but chum some up. if you can, throw in some hempseed too make them more dopey. Good Luck! Dan. __________________ Fishing for a living

Re: Fly Fishing For Carp Well thanks to you all for the help and advice you have given me. I went fishing on Sat and had a go on the fly rod with a trimmed down pop up tiger nut to make it look like a dog biscuit. After watching the carp sipping on some free offerings I cast between the lillies and reeds in the margins and had a fish with in minuites. What can i say, it was the most exciting take i ever seen and about 10 mins later i land a 12lb mirror which is my new P B so i was really chuffed. My mate said he will tie me some deer hair and a peach doll for me to try next time. I had 7 carp using this method and for me it beats float fishing any day. Thanks again Dave sorry have got no pics forgot my camera. rrr

Re: Fly Fishing For Carp ![]() A lot of people who fly fish in warm waters have had the experience of accidentally catching a carp. But few try to accomplish this deliberately. For those few, this brief guide should be helpful. Hopefully you will also experiment and share with others your successes and failures. 1. General Techniques Basically there are only two ways to fly fish for carp -- sight casting and blind casting. Sight casting involves seeing carp in the water and casting the fly to about 1 or 2 feet in front of them. While this is not always possible, it often is and provides some of the most exciting carp fishing. An analogy is often drawn to fishing for bonefish and the analogy is quite accurate. Like bonefish, carp can often be seen tailing in the shallows. Like bonefish, carp are eating whatever organisms they find on or scare up from the bottom. And like bonefish, when they take your fly expect a long hard run that may take you "into your backing". Blind casting can take two forms. You can cast to places carp are likely to be and hope you are right. This is usually not a high percentage technique. More reliable is to cast to where you know carp are because you have tossed groundbait in that area. The groundbait not only attracts the carp and concentrates them in a relatively small area but it also gets them into a feeding mood, maybe even a competitive feeding mood. People who bait fish for carp know a great deal about groundbaiting

Re: Fly Fishing For Carp I love fly fishing for Carp. Living in Spain does not provide for any decent trout fishing, so I keep my hand in with Carp and Black Bass. My best Carp on the fly is 11lb.
