Question Spawn bound tench!

I dont Tench fish (mainly because there is no tench waters i know of in Scotland!) but i have recently read of a condition called "spawn bound "wereby at spawning time the female is unable to get rid of the spawn she has accummulated over the previous months and the spawn inside her soaks up water so she weighs an incredible weight (14 15 lbs in some cases!).
I was just wondering if anyone knows what happens to these fish and wether they die or what ??
